Malden Youth Soccer runs on the power of volunteers. Help out: you'll have a great time, and the kids will benefit!

Coach/Assistant Coach

post-game huddle: Go Malden! When we end a game with huddle, shouting "Go Malden!" a chill runs through me: all of us together, we really are a team."

Haven't coached before? Coached adult soccer but not youth? MYS provides training and resources for coaches and assistant coaches, including paying for coaches and assistant coaches to attend the first two Massachusetts Youth Soccer certificate courses (for G and F licenses). Get started online with the Mass Youth Soccer Resource Library, which includes training material and practice plans.

All coaches must be licensed
within the first year they start coaching: a minimum of a G license for Intown, and a minimum of F for Travel.  If it is a coach's first year coaching, s/he must have the appropriate license by the second season. We occasionally sponsor G and F certificate courses locally, and subsidize licensing costs.

If you become a coach and are licensed, after one season your child can participate in MYS for free.

All coaches must have a CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) request filed with our registrar.

If you're thinking about being or want to become an assistant coach or head coach, contact the Coach Training Coordinator/Recruiter.

Team Manager

Every team needs a Team Manager, sometimes known as "team parent." The role usually includes: communicating with parents about practice and game schedules, and coordinating carpools, healthy snacks, and get-togethers. soccer ball & fruit by Dom Dada, see Flickr Some Team Managers also are responsible for team equipment (e.g. balls, goalie shirt, cones), and bringing official rosters to games.

To become a Team Manager, please speak with the coach of your daughter or son's team.

Ever think "but the ball was totally out of bounds!" or "that was a dirty play:Referees, by Eric a.k.a. Treedork on Flickr that player should be ejected!" Now's your chance, and you get to wear a cool uniform too.

Keep our players safe, make sure players know and follow the rules, and earn some cash while enjoying the game. Other towns have 3 referees on the field for travel games: it's time that Malden brought our games up to that level of fair play.

Anyone 12 years or older can take the  course to become a US Soccer Federation certified grade 9 referee, and work in-city games. If you are 16 or older, you can earn the grade 8 certification and work any youth matches. MYS will subsidize your licensing costs.

Learn more from the Mass State Referee Committee, and contact the MYS Referee Coordinator, Robert Navas.

Board Membership & Committees

We're always looking for people to help with work that the Board is focusing on (such as increasing the number of fields available in Malden), or to propose and spearhead a project you think up.

We also need help with placing banners at fields on game days, fundraising activities, staffing publicity or sales tables, keeping order at events like Picture Day, etc. etc.!
